We are a smoke-friendly studio. Designated private outdoor areas are provided to clients wanting to smoke during their booked sessions.
During recording sessions, the tracking engineer focuses mostly on getting the right takes and performances from the talent along with song structure and editing. However, the tracking engineer still gets the records to a “light mix” or “rough mix” stage to lay the groundwork for the following mix engineer. A separate “mix session” should be booked to take the rough mixes to commercial release quality. Mixers can now focus more so on finalizing effects, tuning, individual track tonal balancing, EQing, leveling, and so.
When recording a demo, we focus on the song’s chord structure, arrangement, lyrics and melody. The instrumentation of the demo tends to be minimal, either a guitar or piano and a vocal, sometimes percussion. It is usually an outline of the songs melody and chords. Taking that demo into the production stage is where the artist and producer get to focus on individual parts, harmony, vocal layers, and anything else the artist wants to include into the song until it is fully realized into a commercial release.
What is mixing?
Mixing is the process of creating balance between the vocal recordings and the sonics of the instrumentation. In this process, a source's volume level, sonic frequencies, dynamics, and panoramic position are manipulated and or enhanced. While recordings are mixed by a trained mix engineer, the end product greatly depends on the quality of the recording.
What is mastering?
Mastering is the final step in completing your recording. Mastering enhances your mix, brings your record to industry levels, and creates balance for playback across all devices. It utilizes compression, EQ, limiting, and audio spatial tools to enhance the overall final mix. We recommend your Mastering Engineer is different from your Mix Engineer, to ensure the best quality.
GVO Mastering has deep relationships with many producers and writers that we can recommend to help with your project. Our talents focus more on the recording, mixing, and mastering process while the studios are built to facilitate outside producers with the space, equipment, software, and instruments needed to create without compromise.
